The Djakarta International Theatre Platform (DITP) 2025 has announced an exciting opportunity for Southeast Asian theatre and performing arts practitioners. BELALANG \ CÀO CÀO: Translocal Performance Lab is a fully-funded, cross-border laboratory program fostering experimentation, collaboration, and critical exchange among artists in the region. Applications are open until May 26, 2025—don’t miss this chance to be part of a transformative artistic journey.

A Space for Exploration & Collaboration
Initiated by the Jakarta Arts Council, DITP has been a vital platform for artistic innovation and discourse for nearly a decade. This year, the program adopts ‘Bumantara’—a visionary concept by Indonesian intellectual Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana—as its curatorial framework. Bumantara (combining bumi, meaning “land,” and antara, meaning “in-between”) reimagines Southeast Asia as a fluid, interconnected space shaped by cultural exchange.
BELALANG \ CÀO CÀO (meaning “grasshopper” in Indonesian and Vietnamese) symbolizes movement, sensing, and leaping into the unknown. As the DITP 2025 Co-Curators (Nguyễn Hải Yến “Red”, Brigitta Isabella, and Akbar Yumni) explain:
“The act of a grasshopper leaping up into thin air and holding its eyes/life in between above and below before landing creates an invisible weave of traces and memories. That weave is where the known is unlearned and the unknown is learned—where new narratives emerge.”
This Lab is more than a residency—it’s a ‘home-in-between’, a space for artists to explore intercultural collaboration, dramaturgy of everyday life, and performative experimentation.
What Does the Lab Offer?
Three-week intensive residency (July 24 – August 13, 2025) in Jakarta, Indonesia
Fully-funded (including artist fee, flights, accommodation, per diem)
Peer learning & mentorship from leading Southeast Asian theatre makers
Fieldwork, workshops, and performative open studio within DITP: Bumantara 2025
A platform to engage with Southeast Asia’s vibrant theatre ecosystems
