Due to a shift in audience attention from in-person events to the online world, Penang Art District was tasked to create an online platform dedicated to promote Penang’s arts community.

The scale of global exposure to arts and cultural content online today is unprecedented. Amidst the slowing of economic activity caused by the pandemic, digital transformation has emerged as a key element of economic and social resilience. But how do artists and creatives manage the various platforms at hand and keep their audience engaged whilst competing with a pool of international artists and creatives that has now expanded into a global ocean?
What is senang.art?
Dedicated to highlighting Penang’s creative industry, senang.art is a one-stop centre for Penang artists, creators, and creative businesses to connect with each other and with their audience both locally and internationally. It is also a social network site for artists and creatives to showcase their work and portfolio, join the creative community, and get discovered. Think of it as a cross between LinkedIn and Facebook.
This initiative came about through suggestions and feedback received from the Arts Community Catch-Up sessions hosted by Penang Art District during the various stages of Movement Control Order in 2020. There has been a high demand for a single platform for the Penang arts community even before the pandemic. Thus, senang.art is part of a long-term initiative to market and promote our local Penang talents to both national and international audiences.
Why should I sign up as an artist or creative business?

senang.art features primarily Penang talents and brands, showing the world the melting pot of culture and creativity Penang has to offer. This site also aims to connect other industries in Penang with arts and creative businesses to encourage cross-sector collaborations. - Connect with other artists and creatives in Penang
It’s a jungle out there on Facebook and Instagram. Sieving through multiple pages and profiles to find the right artist to commission, collaborate with, or engage is challenging. At senang.art, the pages are categorised to different forms, techniques, and mediums to ease the search for a specific artist you’re interested in. - It’s a professional portfolio linking to all other social platforms
Display your best work and highlight your achievements on your Artist Page. When potential clients or collaborators request a resume or CV, send them a single link which contains a comprehensive collection of your work, unique style, and work experience. - Potential connectivity with networks outside of Penang
senang.art is powered by Penang Art District, a state government agency that is part of various international networks of creative hubs and arts organisations. Members will be regularly updated on opportunities and events within these networks. - senang.art will help to market you
The approved Artist Pages on senang.art are “verified” Penang artists, organisations, and creative businesses. Be part of a wide database of Penang artists which senang.art will take on roadshows, exhibitions, trade shows, and festivals to help you connect with opportunities, both locally and internationally.
I’m interested. How do I get started?
It’s really easy. First, register a User Account on senang.art. Then, request for Page Creation to set up your Artist Page.
Once your Artist Page is approved, here are 10 things you can prepare to set up a basic Artist Page:
- A profile photo or organisation logo
- A short description of yourself or your organisation
- A gallery of your best work, latest exhibition and/or latest production
- A list of achievements and awards (if any)
- A list of career highlights and/or your top 5 recent exhibitions, events, shows, or projects
- Link your career highlights to the gallery of your work
- Your public contact details and other social media links
- Upload your first post on your Feed – say hi to the community and your audience
- Follow Senang Official, Penang Art District, and other fellow Artist Pages on senang.art
- Give us a shoutout when you’re all set and we’ll promote your Artist Page
