On a Tuesday evening, we chatted with Esther Geh, an anaesthesiologist turned full-time artist, who founded The Art E Space as a shared space for friends of an art club to get together. Eventually, the space grew into a co-sharing space for artists from various genres and background to explore, learn and exchange. from one another.
Esther also shared her journey from leaving her medical career to pursue the arts – the challenges faced entering the arts scene at a later stage of her career and the importance of building support within the arts community. Her botanical paintings, encouraged by her background in the field of science, bring out the intricate details of our natural world, which we sometimes overlook.
We also challenged the definition of “professional artist” and explored what it takes to start out an art career at a later stage in life.
